Make Some Cash Crackin' Coyotes and Join Us for the 5th Annual Howler's Bawl!!

Posted by  //

We're now entering our 5th year of our annual Howler's Ball Coyote Hunt!  This is an exciting 24 hr. event where we have a lot of fun while doing some good for the local small game and spring fawn population!  Predator control is a subject not often talked about in whitetail circles, but they do take their toll on newborn and young fawns throughout the summer.  Many landowners are more than willing to let you hunt on their land here in Iowa, especially if they know you are here to reduce the number of coyotes running the timbers and ditches across thier property.  This is an excellent chance to gain access not only for the coyote contest alone, but also to build a repor with local landowners and possibly even get permission to chase turkeys in the spring and whitetails in the fall!

The rules of the contest are simple and a complete list of those rules will be read and a copy given to each team at registration on the night of February 26th at 7pm.  We'll meet, as always, at American Outdoors  on Hwy 218 about 6 miles South of Mount Pleasant.  From there you'll have until 8pm to check in your dogs at the weigh-in/pizza dinner on Saturday night, February 27th at the same location.  All of the proceeds, with the exception of the cost of pizza and pop, will be returned to the top 3 or more places depending on the number of entries.  Last year's winning team brought home over $400 in cash!  The basic details of the hunt are posted below...

  • This is a calling contest only, the use of domestic dogs, motorized vehicles, or aircraft is strictly prohibited
  • Only cash will be accepted for entry fees, no checks, please!
  • The entry fee is $40 per team, two man teams are the only entry option
  • Teams arriving after the 8pm deadline will be disqualified
  • The team with the most amount of dogs checked in will be determined the winner
  • Ties are broken by total weight, then by the arrival time before the deadline if necessary
  • BYOB to the checkin, pop and pizza will be provided
  • All teams must comply with DNR rules and regulations and hunt within the state of Iowa borders
  • All teams must be present at registration
  • Core temperatures may be taken at the weigh-in for questionable entries
  • Any evidence of trapping or snaring of coyotes will immediately be determined by a comittee and be disqualified
  • Complete details and rules will be handed out at the registration
